Requirements for Certified Personnel

PLEASE NOTE:
It is your responsibility to know the expiration date of your license, to maintain your renewal requirements, and to submit your application packet for renewal.

License Renewal Procedure

This is to inform you of important recent changes related to licensure renewals.

On Monday, July 12, 2017 Same Day Licensure Processing Walk –In Services was discontinued.

The process for renewal of only a standard license is the following effective July 17, 2017.

Effective Monday, July 17, 2017, all licensure renewal requests must be submitted directly to the Office of Educator Licensure for processing. The local school districts will no longer be renewing license.

Certified staff must go into their ELMS account and enter all their CEUS and/or college credits and comlpete their licensure application.  Once submitted, the person must send the original CEU certificates of required continuing education units, and/or required number of college coursework credit hours on an official sealed transcript  to:

Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Educator Licensure, Post Office Box 771, Jackson, MS 39205

Application and transcript may also be submitted electronically via ELMS. Make sure the college puts on the transcript that it is for renewal of License.

Once you have completed the above process, it can take up to  10-30 working days after you send original certificates for renewal to the MDE. You will need to go back online to the MDE to check for your renewed license. Under Educator on the top right click on ELMS. Click On License Look Up on the bottom right. Put in your Social Security #. Click Search Educators. PRINT your renewed license off. Send the copy of the new license to Kerry Baker in the Human Resources Department of DeSoto County Schools.

REMEMBER: As a result of the original certificates now being available online, the OEL (Office of Educator Licensure) will no longer automatically mail original renewed certificates to educators. Email is the quickest and most efficient way for the OEL to communicate with the educator if there is a deficiency with the application, or to notify the educator once the licensure request has been processed. If you want it mailed, it cost $5.00. Just print it off.

Adding endorsements and upgrading a license must be sent to the Mississippi Department of Education. Contact the MDE for the process for these other licenses or check their website at http://www.mdek12.org.

Professional development for license renewal (CEUs or coursework) must be completed during the validity period of a 5-year standard license. You can see this information on your license in the left hand corner.

MDE does not accept CEUs for less than 0.5 or 5 contact hours. Teachers, please remember, you cannot repeat a CEU and use it again to renew your license.

SEMI credits for Career Administrators will be loaded into the ELMS professional development files by MDE.
