Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Upcoming Graduations

Why is it not possible for DeSoto County Schools to have an outdoor graduation ceremony in a traditional format later this summer?

On May 19th, the Mississippi State Department of Health issued guidelines to school districts regarding summer graduations.  Those guidelines limited school districts to a maximum indoor attendance of 50 people and a maximum outdoor attendance of 100 people.  While many businesses were allowed to open at a percentage of their capacity, these state guidelines limited graduation ceremonies to an exact number of people.

When will cap and gown pick-up begin at each school?

The week of June 1st.  Senior parents will receive an email later today with information regarding cap and gown pick-up.

What is the date and time for my senior’s graduation ceremony?

Graduation ceremonies will take place on the week of June 8th. Each school will be communicating the exact dates and times to parents, and each school has set their own graduation schedule.

Will the small group graduation ceremonies be combined into one “virtual graduation ceremony” video?

Yes. DeSoto County Schools will be using a professional video crew to film each graduation ceremony.  Seniors will be videotaped as they cross the stage to receive their diplomas, and this footage will be combined into a graduation ceremony video for each high school.  The virtual stream video will include the valedictorian speech, the salutatorian speech, and all participating seniors as they receive their diplomas.
